Our broiler chickens are bred specifically for meat, growing faster and developing a meatier build than traditional laying hens.

We source our chicks from a reliable, independent hatchery and raise them in a warm, secure brooder during their first 2-3 weeks. Once they’re ready, they’re moved to pasture where they live in 12 ft. x 10 ft. x 2 ft. portable, floor-less shelters that are moved daily to provide fresh grass and clean ground.

Each shelter holds around 75 birds, giving each one access to about 60 square feet of pasture over the course of their 5-6 weeks outdoors. This daily rotation ensures they always have fresh grass and clean bedding, contributing to their overall health. While forage only makes up about 10-15% of their diet, the greens provide vital nutrients that help balance their nutrition, including boosting Omega 3 fatty acids.

We move the chicken tractors early each morning, while the dew is still fresh on the grass, so the birds get the most nourishing greens possible. The shelters protect them from predators and the elements, with the added security of a devoted livestock guardian dog.

Our broilers are processed between 7 and 8 weeks, depending on their growth. They’re fed a locally sourced, non-GMO ration and raised in fresh air and sunlight — nothing like the crowded, stressful environments found in factory settings.

Our first batch begins in April, and we wrap up the season in late October. Since chickens aren’t fans of cold weather, we stick to their natural growing season.

Availability: Broilers are available from May through October, and we do our best to stock enough to last year-round.
